About

The Museum of Casual Objects and Intimate Friendship (MoCOIF) connects Indianapolis and Berlin through curated objects representing friendship, local places, and generosity. This call is for objects to enter the collection of MoCOIF’s first location in Berlin, located within the Michelberger Hotel. All objects will be sourced from Indianapolis residents and neighbors, establishing a cross-cultural conversation between these two localities. MoCOIF’s second location in Indianapolis will similarly host a collection of objects sourced from Berlin, with a location to be announced in fall 2019. MoCOIF is a partnership of Indianapolis Contemporary and the Michelberger Hotel.

Call for Objects

As its name suggests, the MoCOIF collection is comprised of casual, everyday objects imbued with meaning given to them by the donor. While the objects themselves are ordinary, an object could represent any of the complex reminders of a place: good, memorable, difficult, ugly, forgotten; stories that deserve to be told; a friendship; a memory; a secret; a hope; or any other potent reminders from a place.

All objects must fit within the dimensions of the museum’s display shelves,
17cm h x 17 cm d x 102 cm l (6.7” h x 6.7” d x 40.2’ l).

Examples of these everyday objects could include a mug, a baseball, a piece of brick, twine, a challenge coin; it is up to the donor to explain the significance of their particular object. As objects will be shipped to Berlin, they must meet international shipping restrictions.

To Participate

All residents, neighbors, and lovers of Indianapolis are invited to submit objects to enter the museum collection.

Submit objects for consideration online by the end of August 2019. Due to limited space, not all objects will enter the collection of MoCOIF.

If selected, MoCOIF will provide a Receipt of Gift to be completed by the donor, acknowledging acceptance of the object into the permanent collection of the museum. All objects become property of MoCOIF, with donors acknowledged in a public catalog book at the museum, as well as online. Donors for selected objects will be notified by by the end of September, with instructions for delivery of objects provided at this time.
